ORLANDO, Fla. – Freshman Taylor Miller enjoyed one of those kind of days that happens only so often as she didn't record an out, to help lead the Mercer softball team to two more victories at the Diamond 9 Citrus Classic at the Wide World of Sports Complex on Sunday.
The Bears first defeated Lehigh, which was an added game to make up for lost time from Saturday's weather, by a score of 7-2. Freshman Anna O'Neill righted the ship after her tough outing at Georgia by pitching a complete game victory against the Mountain Hawks.
Miller began her great day by getting three hits in three tries while scoring two and knocking in one. Sophomore Kaytlin Haney, who also had a good day at the plate, got two hits and three RBIs in game one.
The second game of the day, and final game of the tournament for Mercer, was a victory against Marshall. The Bears ousted the Thundering Herd 7-1 for their fourth straight win.
Junior Molly Garmany got Mercer going with a solo homer in the second inning. Miller again could not be stopped, as she record three more hits, scored and knocked in a run, and stole a base. Haney added two hits and two RBIs and junior Kaylynn Sloat belted a two-run home run.
The Bears had a great weekend, which has the coaching staff encouraged going forward.
"We are very happy with the team," co-head coach Stephanie DeFeo said, "We are pitching well, playing solid defense, and scoring a lot of runs."
Mercer will be back in action Wednesday as they take a short, one-day road trip to Atlanta for a doubleheader against Georgia State. The first game will start at 4:00 p.m.
