Women's Tennis Rallies to Knock Off Florida A&M 4-3

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer women's tennis team dropped the doubles point, but rallied back to grab four for the six singles matches and defeat Florida A&M 4-3 Friday afternoon at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center.
The Bears opened the day with an 8-2 victory at No. 1 doubles, as the duo of Danielle Jones and Lucie Payrat picked up an 8-2 victory, but he Rattlers earned 8-5 wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to take the opening point.
Mercer responded in singles play and quickly tied the score when Jones defeated Alexis Dean 6-0, 6-1 at the top spot, and Haley Powell added a 6-0, 6-1 victory No. 3 singles to give the Bears a 2-1 lead.
After Natalie Franklin picked up a victory at No. 5 singles, the score was tied 3-3 and the Bears emerged with the win thanks to a comeback 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 three-set marathon victory by Payrat.
Mercer earned its fourth win of the season and is 3-1 over its last four matches.
The Bears return to action Saturday, March 1, taking on Campbell in Savannah, Ga. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
