STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. – Senior Lacey Fears fired a 6-over 78 to highlight the Mercer women's golf team's opening round of the John Kirk Panther Intercollegiate on Sunday at Eagles Landing Country Club.
As a team, Mercer opened the event with a 317 and sits in ninth place on the leaderboard. The Bears are six shots ahead of UAB and five strokes behind Middle Tennessee. Host Georgia State leads the field with a day one 300.
Fears carded two birdies and 10 pars en route to her team-best total and will enter Monday's second round in a tie for 27th place individually. Her classmate Mary Alice Murphy shot 79 and is tied for 34th place.
Junior Sarah Louie Brown and freshmen Katy Harris and Haley Austin all used 80 strokes Sunday and are tied for 41st place.
The second round is slated for an 8 a.m. start on Monday.
