MACON – Payton Nutzman and Henry Hampshaw excelled on the pitch to be recognized as the Mercer Scholar-Athletes of the Week for the week of October 12-18.
Nutzman, a sophomore midfielder from Greenville, South Carolina, scored four goals and notched an assist to lead Mercer to a 2-0 week in Southern Conference play. Nutzman recorded a brace in back-to-back games for the first time in her collegiate career. The SoCon named Nutzman the SoCon Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season after lighting up the scoreboard last week.
Hampshaw, a senior goalkeeper from Holmfirth, England, was instrumental in Mercer blanking ETSU this past Saturday. Hampshaw secured his second clean sheet of the season by notching seven saves against the Bucs, who sat atop of the SoCon standings heading into the match. Hampshaw has made five or more saves in seven of his 14 appearances and ranks third in the country with 74 total saves.
Nutzman and the women's soccer team hit the road for the final time in the 2026 regular season this Friday, October 23, when they travel to Cullowhee, North Carolina, to play Western Carolina (4-9-2, 2-4-1 SoCon).
Hampshaw and the men's soccer team also puts an end to its road slate this Saturday, October 24, when the Bears travel to Lexington, Virginia, for a road test against VMI (4-11-1, 0-4 SoCon).
