
Bergjans, Pickles Tabbed Mercer Scholar-Athletes Of The Week

MACON – Sammi Bergjans and JP Pickles led their squads to dominant wins and were named the Mercer Scholar-Athletes of the Week for the week of September 21-27.
Bergjans, a junior setter from Wentzville, Missouri, led the Southern Conference with 11.83 assists per set, powering Mercer to a two-match sweep of The Citadel. Bergjans began the weekend with 32 assists in just three sets in Friday's match before posting 39 assists on Saturday. Bergjans also added three service aces, six blocks and 18 digs in a perfect weekend for the Bears.
Pickles, a junior quarterback from Tallahassee, Florida, became the second player in Mercer football history to record a passing, rushing and receiving touchdown in the same game as the Bears defeated Abilene Christian, 34-17, this past Saturday. Pickles rushed for a career-high 130 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries, completed eight of his 11 passing attempts for 77 yards and a touchdown and caught a six-yard touchdown pass from Travion Solomon in the first quarter.
Bergjans and the volleyball team travel to Johnson City, Tennessee, for a two-match series against ETSU on Friday, October 2 and Saturday, October 3.
Pickles and the football team conclude its three-game road trip in Lexington, Virginia, against SoCon foe VMI on Saturday, October 3.
