MACON – Olivia Bori and JP Pickles delivered a pair of game-winning performances and received Mercer Scholar-Athlete of the Week recognition for the week of October 26-November 1.
Bori, a senior forward/midfielder from Jacksonville, Florida, scored the game-winning goal in a 1-0 win over Chattanooga this past Sunday. Bori's ninth goal of the season handed the Mocs their fourth loss of the season and secured the seventh seed in the upcoming Southern Conference tournament. Bori leads the Bears in goals and is third in the SoCon.
Pickles, a junior quarterback from Tallahassee, Florida, was named the SoCon Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season after scoring four touchdowns in Mercer's comeback win over The Citadel this past Saturday. Pickles threw for 234 yards and three touchdowns on 17-for-20 passing with no interceptions and added 46 yards and an additional touchdown with his legs. After entering halftime down 10-0, Pickles completed 10 of 12 passes for 189 yards and led the Bears to four scoring drives in their five second-half possessions.
Bori and the women's soccer team begin their run in the SoCon Championship Tournament this Friday, November 6, in Greenville, South Carolina, against No. 10 Wofford. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Last season, the Bears entered the tournament as the sixth seed and downed No. 3 ETSU and No. 2 Western Carolina to earn their first appearance in the championship game since 2015 before top-seeded Samford put an end to their run.
Pickles and the football team travel to No. 25 Chattanooga this Saturday, November 7. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Finley Stadium.
