Women's Golf Holds Steady at John Kirk Panther Intercollegiate

STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. – Senior Lacey Fears continued to lead the way for the Mercer women's golf team at the John Kirk Panther Intercollegiate, firing a 1-over 73 in Monday's second round to help the Bears close the day in ninth place.
Mercer's second round 301 was 16 strokes better than Sunday's total and positions the Bears nine strokes behind Jacksonville State. Georgia State continues to lead the field at 588 after shooting 288 on Monday.
Fears rebounded from three-straight bogeys on holes 5-7 with back-to-back birdies on the eighth and ninth holes. She added another birdie on the 13th hole and closed the day as one of 22 players to shoot 73 or better. Her Monday effort came in conjunction with a Sunday 78 and positions her in tie for 19th individually.
Junior Sarah Louie Brown improved upon her Sunday total by six strokes, shooting 74 on Monday to close the day's proceedings in a tie for 31st place. Senior Mary Alice Murphy backed up her Sunday 79 with a Monday 77 and is tied for 39th place.
Freshman Haley Austin carded a 77 in the second round and is now tied for 45th at 157. Her classmate Katy Harris posted an 82 on Monday and is locked in a five-way tie for 63rd place at 162.
Tuesday's final round of the event is scheduled for a 9 a.m. start.
