Men's Golf Ties for Fourth at USF Invitational

DADE CITY, Fla. – Mercer senior James Beale fired a 6-under 66 on the final day of the USF Invitational to lead the men's golf team to a tie for fourth place on the team leaderboard. Beale's three-round total of 206 positioned him in a tie for fifth place individually.
As a team, Mercer posted a 278 in Tuesday's final round to complete the event at 840 and post its fifth top-five placement of the year. Mercer's 840 equaled the effort of Illinois and was just two strokes behind UNC Greensboro. Florida State won the tournament at 823 while South Florida came in second place at 833.
Beale's second top-five finish of the season saw the senior notch seven birdies on the final day to post his seventh round in the 60's this year.
Freshman Emmanuel Kountakis used 70 strokes on Tuesday and captured 15th place with a 54-hole score of 210. Junior Trey Rule registered an even-par 72 to tie for 31st place at 214. Senior Hans Reimers tied for 37th overall after closing his tournament at 215 on the heels of a Tuesday 75. Freshman Seasn Smothers rounded out Mercer's competitors with a tie for 61st place at 220 after shooting 70 in final round action.
Mercer continues the spring season on March 14 at the Seminole Intercollegiate. The three-day event is hosted by Florida State at the Southwood Golf Course in Tallahassee, Fla.
