NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Mercer University softball team fell to Stetson University in the Atlantic Sun Championship game by a score of 1-0 at Draper Diamond at Smith Stadium on Saturday.
Mercer (37-19) is the runner-up in the A-Sun Tournament for the third time in program history after Stetson (38-12) held them to just two hits. Stetson scored the lone run of the game on a walk-off hit in the bottom of the seventh.
Freshman Kirsten Stevens (15-6) took the loss despite a masterful performance holding Stetson to just three hits and a run while fanning three batters. The two hits came from sophomore Kaytlin Haney and junior Kaylynn Sloat.
With their RPI on the fringe of being an at-large, the Bears have a shot to make the NCAA Tournament. There will be a selection show on Sunday at 10:00 p.m. that will determine whether this is Mercer's last game of the season.
