Men's Golf Moves Up Leaderboard in Raleigh

RALEIGH, N.C. – The Mercer men's golf team finished the second day of the NCAA Raleigh Regional in a tie for 10th place in the team standings after two complete rounds of action. The Bears completed Thursday's rain-shortened first round with a team score of 291, and improved upon that total by five strokes in the second round of play.
With a two-day total of 577, Mercer put itself within striking distance of the top-five teams, with Saturday's final round set to determine which squads will advance the NCAA Championship. Georgia Tech leads the regional at 540 while Washington (556), Kentucky (560), Texas A&M (565) and Florida State (567) round out the top five.
Junior Trey Rule and senior James Beale are each tied for 18th place individually with 36-hole scores of 142. Rule has collected back-to-back even-par 71's while Beale finished the first round at 2-over 73 and rebounded with a 2-under 69 in the second round.
Senior Hans Reimers is tied for 35th place individually at 144 with a pair of 72's. Freshman Emmanuel Kountakis owns scores of 75 and 74 and is tied for 59th place, while his classmate Sean Smothers is slotted 75th with rounds of 80 and 76.
The low five teams at the conclusion of Saturday's round will advance the NCAA Championship in Hutchinson, Kansas on May 23-28.
