Olivia Bori scored her first goal as a Bear

CARROLLTON, Ga. – After missing all of last season to due to injury, senior forward Olivia Bori scored her first goal as a Mercer Bear as the Bears shutdown the West Georgia offense in a 1-0 win on the road in Carrollton, Georgia Sunday night.

The Bears begin the season with two straight wins on the road as Ariel Bernard picked up her first shutout in goal as a Bear.

Mercer outshot West Georgia, 25-8 including a 13-3 shots on goal edge. The Bears also had 10 corners to just four for the Wolves.

In the 26th minute, Hayden Lepley played a ball down the right sideline to Bachman who turned past her defender and drove to the endline where she sent a low cross into the box where Bori took a one-time shot that beat the West Georgia to her near post to put the Bears up, 1-0.

Some of Mercer's past chances to get a second goal came in the next 10 minutes following Bori's goal. Karlie Dell had three shots on goal that were all saved and Bori hit the crossbar, but the score remained 1-0 at halftime.

West Georgia pushed to find a game-tying goal in the second half as seven of their eight shots in the game came in the second half, but the Bears's defense was strong and Bernard had a great game in goal for the Bears making two saves.
