MACON, Ga. – A day before the bus leaves for the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament, the Mercer University softball team partnered with the Mercer University baseball team to host Jay's Hope at Sikes Field on Sunday.
Jay's Hope is an organization that seeks to improve the quality of the lives of children with cancer and their families here in Georgia. They offer social, emotional, spiritual, educational, and financial support to those kids who may not be so well off.
The benefit was to raise money and awareness of Jay's Hope and to allow the kids they serve to come out and have a fun day at the ballpark. About twenty kids and their families came out to Sikes Field and both Mercer's softball and baseball teams provided coaching and encouragement to every kid who picked up a bat or put on a glove.
The Bears supplied barrels of smiles on Sunday to the kids who came out for the event and look to take that positive energy with them to Nashville as the A-Sun Tournament begins this Wednesday with Mercer taking on Kennesaw State.
