
Men's Golf Tied for 11th at Tar Heel Intercollegiate

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Sophomore Emmanuel Kountakis fired a 2-under 70 to highlight the Mercer men's golf team's Saturday second round at the Tar Heel Intercollegiate. Mercer's team score of 293 followed Friday's 287 and has the Bears tied for 11th place on the team leaderboard.
Mercer's team total of 580 is 4-over par and has the squad tied with Chattanooga after 36 holes. The Bears will enter Sunday's final round five strokes ahead of Gardner-Webb and Boston College.
Host North Carolina leads the event with a two-day total of 550. East Carolina (569), Kennesaw State (570), GRU Augusta (572), Furman (573) and Maryland (573) round out the top five.
Kountakis is now tied for eighth place individually with back-to-back rounds of 70. The Augusta, Ga. native is currently four strokes off the tournament lead held by North Carolina's Ben Griffin.
Junior Trey Rule and freshman Jerry Ren are both tied for 43rd place overall with scores of 146. Both players shot 72 on Friday and 74 on Saturday.
Junior Jeffrey Heinicka carded a 75 in the second round and is tied for 59th at 147. Sophomore Sean Smothers followed Friday's 77 with a 75 Saturday and is tied for 75th place.
Sunday's final round is slated for an 8 a.m. start.
