
Women's Golf Completes Opening Round of Forest Oaks Fall Classic

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Mercer University freshman Terese Romeo shot a career-best 71 to lead the Bears' women's golf team in the rain-soaked opening round at UNC-Greensboro's Forest Oaks Fall Classic on Friday morning.

MERCER SPOTLIGHT
Romeo, who is playing as an individual this tournament, had the best round of her young career. The Tampa, Fla., native carded a 2-under 34 on the back nine to carry her into a tie for second place and just two strokes out of the lead.
THE BEARS IN THE TEAM STANDINGS
Mercer heads into Saturday's second round in seventh place with a score of 315 in the opening 18 holes of golf. The Bears are six strokes out of fifth place in an event that is led by Winthrop (296) and Xavier (297).
MERCER NOTABLES
- Schanen is on pace for her first career Top-10 finish and the third-straight Top-20 effort, after carding three birdies on her way to eighth place on opening day with a 5-over 75.
- Janiga finished three strokes behind in a tie for 25th place. She heads into Saturday's second round, needing to make up three strokes to earn her third consecutive Top-10 finish.
- The Bears' six players in action combined for seven birdies on the day, including a team-leading three from Schanen and two from Romeo.
