
Men's Soccer Drops 3-2 Decision to UNCG

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer University men's soccer team rallied from a 2-0 deficit, but UNCG added a third goal late in the second half and the Bears were unable to answer as Mercer fell 3-2 to UNCG on Tuesday night.
TURNING POINT
The Spartans were able to put a pair of goals away in the first 20 minutes of play, but Ian Antley put the Bears on the board with a header in the 42nd minute. Antley's goal came after Kobe Perez sent a free kick into the box and Jordan Duru headed it on to Antley before the ball found its way to the back of the net.
Mercer knotted the score, 2-2, in the 60th minute off a free kick from Perez that went directly to the top right of the net. UNCG took a 3-2 advantage in the 72nd minute and was able to hold on to the lead in the final 18 minutes of play.
MAN OF THE MATCH
Kobe Perez led Mercer with three points off a goal and an assist. The freshman also notched a team-high three shots on the night, including two on goal.
STAT OF THE GAME
Mercer led UNCG in corner kicks, 7-2, including a 4-1 advantage in the first half.
NOTABLES
- Ian Antley's goal was his second of the season and the third of his career. Antley also tallied a team-high three shots, with one on goal.
- Kobe Perez registered his third goal and second assist of the season.
- Jordan Duru recorded his third assist of the year and the sixth of his career.
- Duru (2), Emmet Johnson (1) and Gabe Tucker (1) also tallied shots for the Orange and Black.
- Jeremy Booth made two saves while in goal for the Bears.
- Mercer led UNCG in shots, 10-9, but the Spartans held a 5-3 advantage in shots on goal.

Mercer moves to 8-6-1 (3-3-1 SoCon), while UNCG improves to 8-5-3 (4-1-2 SoCon)

Mercer will face VMI on Saturday, Oct. 24 at 12:00 p.m. at Bear Field. Prior to the match, Mercer will host a senior day ceremony as the Bears recognize their seniors in one of the final games at Bear Field this season.
