MACON, Ga. – Former Mercer basketball standout and 2015 graduate T.J. Hallice was selected by the Idaho Stampede with the No. 2 pick in the fourth round (59th overall) of the NBA D-League draft on Saturday.
The Stampede is an affiliate of the Utah Jazz based on out Boise, Idaho. Hallice was the team's fourth selection of the day, joining Jeff Ayres (Arizona State), Travis Releford (Kansas) and Da'Shonte Riley (Eastern Michigan) as players taken by the team through the first four rounds.
Players selected in the draft join NBA affiliate, returning, draft rights and local tryout players at each NBA D-League team's training camp, which begin no earlier than Nov. 2. Only players signed to an NBA D-League Standard Player Contract were eligible for selection.
Hallice made his mark down low during his time in Macon, leading the team in rebounds during his senior season (2014-15) with an average of 6.5 boards per game. The Waxhaw, N.C., native was third on the team in scoring during his final year, posting 9.1 points per game. During his junior season at Mercer Hallice came off the bench for the Bears and helped the team advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
2015 marks the second straight year that a Mercer alum has been selected in the NBA D-League Draft, as former 2014 Atlantic Sun Defensive Player of the Year Daniel Coursey was selected in the second round of the 2014 draft by the Erie Bayhawks.
