MACON, Ga. – The Mercer University softball team wraps up its fall scrimmage schedule this weekend, as the Bears host Georgia Military College and South Georgia State for a full weekend of action at Sikes Field on Oct. 10-11.
"There are two quality programs coming in this weekend and we are not taking either of them lightly," said head coach James DeFeo. "We are treating these like regular season games and will stick to the plan, focus on our execution and play hard to allow things to fall into place."
Mercer, which has outscored opponents 25-1 this fall, will take on Georgia Military at 4 p.m. on Saturday, before closing out the day with an estimated first pitch of 6 p.m. against South Georgia State. The Bears will officially close book on the 2015 fall schedule on Sunday with a doubleheader against GMC starting at 1 p.m.
"I want to see everyone continue to progress as they have been all fall," added James DeFeo. "We've played really well this fall and we want to finish up with the two strong doubleheaders to give us a full head of steam going into the spring."
Mercer's pitching staff was exceptional last Saturday, holding Georgia Highlands to just four hits in the doubleheader. The offense matched the performance, piling up 25 runs on the day. Taylor Rodgers highlighted the offense with a 6-for-7 effort at the dish with six RBIs, while Natalie Shiver tallied four hits with a team-best seven RBIs.
South Georgia State and Georgia Military will open the weekend of action with a 2 p.m. start on Saturday.
