
Women's Lacrosse Defeated by Old Dominion

MACON, Ga. – Kate Leone led the Bears with three goals as the Mercer women's lacrosse team fell to Old Dominion, 24-10, on Thursday afternoon at Five Star Stadium.
Lindsey Zeltwanger set a program record with four assists while also tallying a goal, five draw controls and three ground balls. Erica Coyne added two goals, an assist, two ground balls and a caused turnover. Hannah Bair tallied a goal and an assist, and Meghan Segreti notched two goals, an assist and a team-high six draw controls.
Audrey Allen contributed a goal and two draw controls, and Marisa Agganis tallied three ground balls, a draw control and a caused turnover. Haleigh Wurzel made four saves and allowed 16 goals, and Michele Holmes came in for the Bears and made five saves and allowed eight goals.
The Monarchs took control of the game early with a 2-0 lead, but the Bears answered and kept it close, pulling within one, 4-3, with 15:21 left in the first half. Old Dominion scored four straight goals to stretch its advantage to 8-3 just four minutes later.
After the Monarchs worked their way to an 11-5 lead, the Bears fired off three straight goals to move the score to 11-8 with 4:37 left in the half. Old Dominion scored the final four goals of the half to take a 15-8 lead at intermission.
ODU started the second period in the same way they ended the first, and went up 22-9 before the game was called due to weather with 6:57 on the clock. After an hour weather delay, the teams resumed play. Old Dominion added two goals and Segreti scored off an open-net free-position goal for Mercer to put the final score at 24-10.
Next up, the Bears will host Howard on Saturday, April 4 at 2 p.m. at Five Star Stadium.
