
Women's Lacrosse Records First Ever Shutout In 24-0 Win Over Radford

Mercer improves to 6-0 in Big South play
RADFORD, Va. - Mackenzie Ward made five saves in three quarters of work in goal to help the Mercer women's lacrosse team pick up its first ever shutout in program history as the Bears defeated Radford, 24-0, Saturday afternoon from Radford, Virginia.
With the win, the Bears improve to 9-6 overall and 6-0 in Big South play with two regular season games to go. Mercer joins Notre Dame as the only two Division I teams in the country to have a shutout this season.
Mercer's 24 goals were a season high. The Bears had 14 different player score a goal in the game. Shots in the game were 40-12, Mercer and the Bears had a 31-6 shots on goal advantage. Draw controls were 20-6, Mercer as Ayla Galloway was once against dominant in the draw circle. Galloway once again broke the single-game program record with 19 draw controls which also is a Big South single-game record as well.
Sofia D'Angelo led Mercer offensively with four goals and one assist. Ansley Walters also had a season high four goals for the Bears. Abby Vane led Mercer with a season high three assists to go with one goal. Freshman Avery Adkins had two goals including her first career goal. Sophomore Carley Mullins also scored her first career goal.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Mercer jumped out to a 4-0 lead midway through the first quarter with four different goal scorers accounting for the goals. Walters and D'Angelo each scored their second goals of the game to give the Bears a 6-0 lead.
In the final three minutes of the quarter, Caroline Glus scored twice and D'Angelo scored her third goal of the quarter as Mercer concluded a dominant first quarter with a 9-0 lead.
Mercer scored four goals in the second quarter with Walters scoring the first and last of the four goals and Vane had two assists as well as Mercer led 13-0 at halftime.
Josie Parrett scored her second goal of the game with more than seven minutes to go in the third quarter to give Mercer a 16-0 lead. Avery Adkin scored her first career goal with just over three minutes to play in the third quarter and quickly added her second career goal just over one minute into the fourth quarter as Mercer led, 18-0.
Adkin was one of seven different goal scorers for the Bears in the fourth quarter. Carley Mullins scored her first career goal to give Mercer a 22-0 advantage before Gracie Ochoa and Ellie Foresman scored the final two goals of the game to finish off a complete team win.

Mercer heads back on the road to take on Wofford on Wednesday, April 22. First draw from Spartanburg, South Carolina is set for 4 p.m.
