MACON, Ga. – Mercer junior catcher Natalie Shiver has been named to the 2015 Capital One Academic All-America Division I Softball Second Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Shiver is the eighth Mercer student-athlete to garner Academic All-American honors in school history and the first softball player to do so. She joins Ashani Samuels from the men's soccer team as the only two Mercer representatives for the 2014-15 year. A total of eight Mercer Bears have earned 10 Academic All-American honors since 2005.
The Leesburg, Ga., native is the only Southern Conference student-athlete to be named to any of the prestigious three teams announced on Friday.
Shiver started 53 of Mercer's games this season, recording a .345 batting average and was second on the team with 10 home runs. The catcher also boasted a .588 slugging percentage, a .456 on base percentage and tallied 34 RBIs.
Shiver has been named the SoCon Player of the Week twice this season, in addition to being named the SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week on February 9 and April 30. Shiver is double majoring in Sports Business and Finance and holds well over the 3.30 GPA required to be named a Capital One Academic All-American.
