MACON, Ga. – Mercer University head softball coaches James and Stephanie DeFeo have added pitcher Maxine Rodriguez to the roster for the 2015-16 season.
The Lakewood, Calif., native spent two years at DePaul University, making 29 appearances for the Blue Demons. After contributing mostly on offense during her freshman season, Rodriguez made her first career start in the circle in the 2015 season opener against No. 4 Oklahoma and held the Sooners to just one hit in five innings. Rodriguez made a total of 18 appearances in the circle during her sophomore season, including five starts and three complete games.
A four-year letterwinner at Saint Joseph High School, Rodriguez was an All-League First Team pick in 2010, 2011 and 2012 as well as a Second Team selection in 2013. She was named the Pitcher of the Year in 2011 and Most Valuable Player in 2010. Rodriguez also pitched for the So Cal Jets Gold and the San Gabriel Valley Velocity and was an ASA Nationals runner-up.
Mercer is coming off a 37-22 season, which ended after the Bears' second-straight appearance in the conference championship game. The Orange and Black boasted the SoCon Pitcher of the Year as well as five all-conference recognitions.
