MACON, Ga. - Mercer University's Five Star Stadium was recognized as one of the top stadiums in the FCS, as the national rankings released by facilities website StadiumJourney.com on Wednesday had the stadium listed first in the Southern Conference and sixth among all 125 FCS facilities.
Built in 2013, Five Star Stadium has been home to one of the FCS' top atmospheres since the Bears returned to the gridiron, helping the program lead its conference in attendance in each of the past three seasons. During that time, Mercer has compiled an impressive 15-6 mark at home with its average margin of victory at an impressive 26.9 points.
StadiumJourney.com gave Five Star Stadium the highest marks available for the atmosphere and the return on investment, while also praising the ease of access, Macon community and concessions.
The 10,200-seat stadium played host to a program record four sell-outs during the 2015 season, while seeing a league-best 64,150 fans walk through its gates. Mercer reached another milestone at Five Star Stadium this past fall with the program's first victory over a Top-5 opponent, a 17-14 triumph over No. 3 Chattanooga.
Five Star Stadium is flanked by the state-of-the-art Homer and Ruth Drake Field House, which includes football and lacrosse coaches' offices, team meeting rooms, a student lounge, locker rooms, gameday suites, a weight room and a training room along with a sports medicine clinic.
