
Women's Lacrosse Falls Short Against George Washington

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer University women's lacrosse team fell to George Washington, 9-7, on Tuesday afternoon after the Colonials were boosted by a 6-3 advantage in the second half. Five players led Mercer with two points each.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Haleigh Brooks gave Mercer a very early advantage after she scored her first career goal less than a minute into the game. Erica Coyne added a goal several minutes later to put Mercer up 2-0 with 20:57 remaining in the first half. George Washington answered with a pair of goals of its own, knotting the score, 2-2, with 15:22 left in the first period. Another goal for each team tied the score again with 10:41 to play in the half, but Coyne scored her second goal of the day with 1:41 left in the first half to give the Bears a 4-3 lead before halftime.
The Colonials opened the second half with a pair of goals that put them up 5-4 with 25:40 left in the game. The Bears answered with a pair of goals of their own to re-take the lead, 6-5, with 22:30 on the clock. George Washington scored four unanswered goals over a 14 minutes period to gain a 9-6 advantage with 4:11 remaining in the game. Meghan Segreti scored her second goal of the game with 2:58 on the clock, moving the score to 9-7, but Mercer was unable to continue its late push as the Colonial defense proved too much for the Bears in the final minutes.

- Erica Coyne scored two goals and added a season-high-tying two ground balls and one caused turnover as well as a draw control.
- Meghan Segreti scored a career-high-tying two goals in addition to grabbing three draw controls and a ground ball.
- Nawal Alami tallied a goal and an assist to tie her season high of two points.
- Haleigh Brooks scored her first career goal and added an assist for a career-high two points. Brooks also had a career-high two draw controls and a ground ball.
- Lindsey Zeltwanger dished out a season-high-tying two assists and also notched a ground ball and a draw control.
- Kate Christian registered an assist and a draw control.
- Anna Schneeberger scored her first goal of the season and grabbed a career-high-tying two draw controls.
- Audrey Allen picked up a career-high-tying three ground balls and caused a turnover.
- Fiona Stockton saw action for the first time this season and registered a pair of ground balls.
- Haleigh Wurzel made seven saves, grabbed four ground balls and caused a turnover while in the cage.
- George Washington outshot Mercer, 18-16.
- The Colonials also had more ground balls than the Bears, owning a 28-18 margin.
RECORDS UPDATE
Mercer is now 1-5 on the season and George Washington is 2-5.
