
Women's Lacrosse Steams Past Saint Mary's, 17-5

MACON, Ga. – Three Mercer players netted at least three goals as the Mercer University women's lacrosse team cruised past Saint Mary's, 17-5, on Friday afternoon. Haleigh Brooks led Mercer with four goals, while Erica Coyne and Kate Leone added three goals apiece to lead the Bears' offensive efforts. A total of eight Mercer players scored against Saint Mary's and five players scored multiple goals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bears got started quickly, scoring a pair of goals in the first minute of the game as Coyne and Brooks both found the back of the net. Coyne added another two goals in the fourth minute to increase Mercer's lead to 4-0 with 26:25 left in the first half. The Bears worked their way to a 7-0 lead before the Gaels were able to score their first goal of the game with 16:00 remaining in the period. Mercer scored another four goals in the first half to take an 11-1 lead at the intermission.
Brooks scored Mercer's first goal of the second stanza after just a minute and a half of play and Zeltwanger added a goal to stretch the Bears' lead to 13-1 with 27:23 on the clock. Saint Mary's scored back-to-back goals, but were unable to cut Mercer's lead to less than 10, coming only as close at 13-3 with 22:46 to play. After another goal from each team, moving the score to 14-4, Mercer scored another three unanswered goals to increase its lead to 17-4 with 6:56 remaining. Saint Mary's added one last goal with 1:22 on the clock to make the final score 17-5.

Mercer notched season highs of 17 goals, 10 assists and 27 points.
NOTABLES
- Erica Coyne scored a season-high-tying three goals and added a career-high-tying two assists for a season-high five points. She also had a career-high four draw controls and three ground balls.
- Lindsey Zeltwanger also led Mercer with five points off her two goals and season-high three assists. Zeltwanger added a career-high five ground balls, three draw controls and a season-high-tying two caused turnovers.
- Haleigh Brooks notched a career-high four goals and four points and picked up a ground ball.
- Kelly Hagerty scored two goals, both from the 8-meter line. She added an assist to total a career-high three points. Hagerty also registered career-highs of three ground balls and one caused turnover.
- Kate Leone netted a season-high three goals for the Bears.
- Kate Christian contributed a goal and an assist for a season-high-tying two points, while picking up a career-high-tying three ground balls.
- Gabby Goldberg tallied her first goal and assist of the season and added a ground ball.
- Nawal Alami recorded a goal and a draw control for Mercer.
- Meghan Segreti dished out a career-high-tying two assists and added a career-high-tying two caused turnovers, two ground balls and two draw controls.
- Taylor Horner notched a career-high-tying three ground balls and a caused turnover.
- Tori Blakeman picked up a career-high-tying three ground balls and had a caused turnover.
- Audrey Allen tallied a career-high-tying two caused turnovers and had two draw controls and a ground ball.
- Audrey Robertson registered a career-high two caused turnovers and picked up three ground balls.
- Anna Schneeberger grabbed a ground ball and a draw control, while Victoria Ferdinandi notched a draw control and Kendall Garrett had her first caused turnover of the season.
- Haleigh Wurzel recorded nine saves and two ground balls in 51 minutes of play.
- Michele Holmes also made a save for the Bears.
- Mercer also tallied season-highs of 34 shots, 30 shots on goal, 31 ground balls, 15 draw controls and 11 caused turnovers.
