
Women's Golf in Sixth After Opening Day of SoCon Championship

POOLER, Ga. – The Mercer University women's golf team wrapped up the opening round of the Southern Conference Championship on Sunday at the Savannah Quarters Golf Club. The Bears carded a 325 in the round to close the day in a tie for sixth place.

THE BEARS IN THE TEAM STANDINGS
Mercer finished 37-over-par in the opening round and heads into the event's second round just one stroke away from fifth-place Wofford and six shots behind fourth-place Samford. Furman leads the field, while Chattanooga and ETSU round out the top three.
MERCER SPOTLIGHT
Deems is on pace for her second Top-20 finish at the SoCon Championship, after starting off the event with an impressive 1-under through the first eight holes. The sophomore finished the round with an 8-over 80 to tie Schanen for the best on the team.
MERCER NOTABLES
- The Bears ranked second among the field on Par-3 opportunities, finishing the opening day with a collective score of 7-over. Janiga led the way in that effort, putting together an even-par tally on Par-3 holes to tie for second.
- Mercer tallied four birdies on Sunday with Deems, Janiga, Schanen and Tindal each carding one.
