Mercer Takes on Gardner-Webb in SoCon/Big South Challenge Finale

MACON, Ga. – Mercer wraps up its stay in Spartanburg, South Carolina with a showdown against Gardner-Webb on Sunday at 1 p.m. in its last match of the SoCon/Big South Challenge. The Bears will look to have a bounce-back performance after dropping Friday's match to Winthrop by a final of 2-0.

SERIES HISTORY
The Bears will face the Bulldogs for the 11^th time in program history on Sunday, as Mercer holds a 6-4 advantage in the all-time series. The latest installment of the matchup came in the 2013 season, as Gardner-Webb pulled off a 2-1 victory in extra time in Macon.

FACTS & FIGURES

The win over South Carolina was the first over a ranked team since the Bears took down UAB during the 2010 season and third time Mercer has toppled a ranked squad during head coach Brad Ruzzo's tenure.
All four Mercer goals this season have come from different players, as Conner Antley, Jake Mezei, Bagrou and Perez have each found the back of the net through two matches.
Tuesday's victory was the first in program history against South Carolina and the three goals scored mark the most the Bears have scored against the Gamecocks.
Sunday's match will already be the third contest the Bears have played in the state of South Carolina. Mercer is 1-1 in the Palmetto State this season.
Before Winthrop's goal in the 46^th minute on Friday to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead, Mercer had not trailed in a match for 237 consecutive minutes of play to open the season.

SCOUTING GARDNER-WEBB
The Bulldogs enter Sunday's contest with a 1-1 record on the 2016 season. Gardner-Webb opened the season with a dominant 3-1 victory at Davidson but dropped the first game of the SoCon/Big South Challenge on Friday against Wofford by a score of 2-1. Ali Al-Gashamy leads the Bulldogs in scoring with two goals, as the senior forward bagged a brace in the victory at Davidson.
