Six women, seven men compete against SoCon foes in Spartanburg

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Mercer women's and men's cross country teams placed eighth and 10th, respectively, at the Southern Conference Championships at the Milliken Research Center on Saturday.

The Mercer women finished with 209 points and a final time of 1:36:41 in the 5K race, while the men notched 233 points and a time of 2:16:14 in the 8K event. Mercer's youth led the way, with at least two of the men's and women's top-three finishers were freshmen or sophomores. Three women – Ania Grzeszczak, Kimmie Whiting and Kingsley Green – ran with season-low 5K times. Grzeszczak placed 21st overall with a final time of 18:19.80. Josiah Jaqua, Mercer's top male finisher, was one of four men to finish with season-low 8K times.

Furman swept the SoCon Championships with wins in both the women's and men's races. Mercer's women placed ahead of VMI and The Citadel. Six women and seven men competed for the Bears.
