Recruiting class ranked #13 in Baseball America’s revisited rankings
DURHAM, N.C. – The Mercer baseball program's 2013 recruiting class – one that included 2016 Golden Spikes Award winner Kyle Lewis – was ranked the No. 13 class in the nation in Baseball America's revisited rankings earlier this week.
Â
The publication revisited 2013 and ranked its top-25 recruiting classes based on performance over the last four seasons. Mercer's 2013 class included Lewis, pitcher Ryan Askew, infielder Danny Edgeworth, catcher Charlie Madden and infielder Matt Meeder, among others. Askew, Edgeworth, Madden and Meeder were four-year student-athletes at Mercer, helping the Bears claim 150 wins, three straight Southern Conference regular season titles and one NCAA Tournament berth.
Â
Lewis left Mercer following his junior season as the most decorated student-athlete in school history and was selected No. 11 overall by the Seattle Mariners in the 2016 MLB Draft. He was a two-time SoCon Player of the Year and earned national player of the year honors in 2016 from multiple organizations and publications, including Baseball America and NCBWA.
Â
Askew, Edgeworth and Madden were all selected in the 2017 MLB Draft, rounding out four players from Mercer's 2013 recruiting class to be drafted. Mercer's 2013 recruiting class ranked ahead of programs including Oregon State, Clemson, Texas, Stanford and Cal State Fullerton.
