
Bears Drop Series Opener in Greensboro

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Mercer Bears (22-8, 2-2 SoCon) fell to the UNC Greensboro Spartans (13-17, 2-5 SoCon), 5-4, on Thursday night at UNCG Baseball Stadium.
Decisive Plays:
The Spartans plated a run in each of the first two innings to jump to an early 2-0 lead. The Bears loaded the bases in the third inning and Dylan LaPointe crossed home due to a wild pitch to cut Mercer's deficit in half. Three straight walks loaded the bases for the Bears again in the sixth inning and Michael Graziano delivered a two-out, two-run single to right field that gave Mercer its first lead of the night. Chris Katz drew a walk with the bases loaded yet again in the sixth to give the Bears a 4-2 advantage. Jake Mueller brought the Spartans within one with his third home run of the season in the home half of the seventh. Luke Holland delivered the eventual game-winning runs with a two-run single through the middle of the infield in the eighth.
