Mercer Falls 3-0 in Final Match of Regular Season

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Mercer fell to the top team in the Southern Conference, Furman, 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-13), in a Paladin Senior Night match on Saturday night in Greenville, S.C. Â
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1 (22-25) |Â Mercer ended a 12-5 Paladin run when Emily Krogman recorded a kill for the Bears. The Bears rebounded by outscoring the Paladins 9-2 to bring the Bears within two points (20-18). However, three straight kills entered by Krogman, Sarah Stewart, and Danielle Faust would not be enough to pull out the opening set win.
Set 2 (18-25) | Faust sparked set two after registering a kill for the Bears. After back-and-forth points for each team, the Paladins claimed the lead at 6-5, never relinquishing the advantage for the remainder of the set. Faust attempted a late run following a kill that brought the Bears to within six, but Furman took the win after a Mercer service error.
Â
Set 3 (13-25) | Krogman and Paige Alsten opened set three with a pair of kills to jump start Mercer. However, Furman regained composure to take the advantage and did not let off the gas, racing ahead of the Bears for the 25-13 final-set victory.
