Mercer Welcomes Colonials in Mid-Week Clash

MACON, Ga. – Mercer Women's Basketball is set to take on the Colonials of George Washington tomorrow in Hawkins Arena. The game is slated to tip off at 7 p.m.

Mercer is going through a stretch of five home games in six outings. The Bears gladly return home to Hawkins Arena where they have seen success at home under head coach Susie Gardner. The Bears finished 12-2 at home last season and look to build off their 2-1 home mark thus far in the 2017-18 campaign.

The Bears continue to take care of the ball in the first eight games. Mercer is averaging 15.3 assists per contests on 26.1 made field goals per game. The Bears distribute the ball at a high rate, while also keeping the rock in their possession. Mercer averages 12.9 turnovers per contest. The Bears rank second in the conference and 71st in the NCAA in fewest turnovers per game.

Familiar Faces, Different Uniform
This is the first-ever meeting between the two programs as well as the first-ever collegiate meeting between former high school teammates, Sydni Means and Brianna Cummings. The duo played together at Greater Atlanta Christian. Means has made a name for herself in the Mercer uniform, continuously climbing the leaderboard for career assists. Cummings ranks second on the Colonials in scoring with 13.0 points, while pulling down 5.5 rebounds.

Three x Two
Mercer is on its second three-game winning streak of the season. The Bears began the season 3-0 before dropping back-to-back contests against Georgia and Western Kentucky. Since the pair of losses, Mercer has rebounded with three consecutive victories over VCU, Campbell and Davidson. The Bears accumulated winning streaks of three-or-more games on four occasions last season.

Last Time Out
The Bears ran away with a 15-point victory against Davidson on Sunday, downing the Wildcats by the final score of 69-54. Mercer claimed the first quarter, 14-12, but dropped the second quarter by three to trail at the half, 33-32. The Bears came out with a mission in the third quarter, outscoring Davidson 23-13 to take a nine-point lead. Mercer then held the Wildcats to just eight points in the final stanza, scoring 14 points of its own.

KeKe Calloway led the Bears in scoring with 19 points, while also pulling down a season-high seven rebounds. Kahlia Lawrence finished the game with 18 points, five rebounds and five assists. Amanda Thompson rounded out the double-digit scorers with her second double-double of the season on 10 points and 10 rebounds. Kayla Potts also provided a boost from off the bench, recording seven points, four rebounds, four steals and three assists.

Brianna Cummings led the team in scoring with 23 on nine-of-17 shooting from the field. George Washington's last victory was a 61-46 triumph over Wisconsin on Nov. 24. The Colonials are led in scoring by Kelli Prange, averaging 14.1 points per contest. Prange also collects 6.1 rebounds which ranks second on the squad. Cummings is the final double-digit scorer for George Washington, averaging 13.0 points and 5.5 boards. Neila Luma leads the team in rebounds with 7.5 per game. The Colonials average 66.4 points per game, yielding 67.2 to opponents. George Washington knocks down .398 percent of its shots and makes just over seven threes per game. However, the defense allows opponents to knock down .438 percent of shots from the field, including 7.1 three pointers per outing.
