Series History
This weekend's series will mark the first time Mercer and Maryland-Eastern shore will meet on the diamond. Mercer is 5-3 all-time against schools from Maryland with all eight games coming against the University of Maryland.
Return of the Bears
The Bears are back! And returning to the diamond in Macon is a lot of power including over 75 percent of the team's offense that finished the 2016 season with a national lead in home runs per game and second in the nation in total home runs and seventh in the nation in runs scored.
The keen eye of Bears batters led the nation in drawing bases on balls last season with 71 percent of those walks returning to Middle Georgia in 2017.
Going for Three
Projected to win the Southern Conference by a vote of the media - and a second place projection by only one point from the coaches preseason poll - Mercer is looking to claim a third consecutive ring this season. That is an impressive feat as the Bears have won the SoCon regular season title every year they have been a member of the league.
Mercer Leads Preseason Honors
Mercer led the conference in first team preseason all-conference picks as right-handed pitcher Ryan Askew, shortstop Matt Meeder, third baseman Danny Edgeworth and outfielder Trey Truitt all received first team honors.
Catcher Charlie Madden and second baseman Ryan Hagan were also recognized, receiving second team honors.
