Women’s Soccer Announce Summer Camp Dates
3/8/2017 4:32:00 PM | Women's Soccer
MACON, Ga. – Mercer head coach Tony Economopoulos has announced the dates for the 2017 soccer camps hosted at Mercer University and in Warner Robins this summer.
Â
In 2016, Economopoulos led the Mercer women's soccer team to a 10-9-1 record as the Bears advanced to the SoCon Semifinals for the third straight year.Â
Â
The "Full Day Camp" at Mercer University will run from June 5-9 and July 24-28 and encourages players (boys and girls) from the ages of 7-14 to come out for five days of instruction from top-level college coaches and players. The camp is designed to develop a player's tactical and technical ability through intense instruction and reinforcement in competitive simulated games.
Â
The "Mercer Cubs Camp" is also run from June 5-9 and July 24-28 and is a half day camp for younger players (boys and girls) between the ages 4-6. This camp is designed to give young kids exposure to the game of soccer. Campers will be taught basic rules of the game and develop basic individual skills for soccer. The camp is designed to allow kids to become more comfortable kicking and dribbling the ball as well as develop knowledge of the game in a fun atmosphere.
Â
There will also be a Goalkeeper Camp during the Full Day camps at Mercer on June 5-9 and July 24-28. The goalkeeping camp will take place from 8:30-10:00 a.m. each day and is open to boys and girls ages 7-18.
Â
There will also be a Full Day Camp and Cubs Camp in Warner Robins, Ga., June 12-16. The camp will take place at Central Baptist Church and will be run the same as the camps held in Macon.
Â
The Bears' Elite ID Camp is designed for players (girls only) of ages 9-18 and will take place July 12-15 at Mercer University. In this camp, players will be divided into age appropriate groups to make sure they receive instruction beneficial to their tactical and technical growth as a player. Throughout the week, campers will train in all aspects of the game including technical skills such as shooting, passing, receiving, dribbling, etc. and tactical knowledge like game situations, small sided games, and a competitive environment.
Â
The camp will allow players to experience many aspects of college soccer both on and off the field. Campers will be trained by college coaches and players and stay in on-campus dorm rooms. The program strives to provide an enjoyable experience that is relatable to collegiate soccer life.
Â
Economopoulos works with a full staff of current and former players, as well as various club and collegiate coaches from the southeast, to help provide expert training and personal guidance in each of the camps.
Â
Discounts are available for all camps for children of Mercer University employees or U.S. Military families, as well as for siblings and teams that register. Full-day campers who register by April 1st will receive a free Mercer Camp soccer ball (a $25 value).
