Deems, Kang Highlight First Day of Brickyard Collegiate for Mercer

MACON, Ga. – Hannah Mae Deems and Tiffany Kang each finished the first two rounds of the 2017 Brickyard Collegiate at 2-over-par at The Brickyard Golf Club in Macon Monday.
Overall the Bears enter Tuesday's final round in sixth place at 25-over-par, just eight strokes from a top-three finish.
Deems, a junior, was the top-scoring Bear with a countable number while Kang, a freshman that began her collegiate career in January, is competing as an individual. Both enter the final round tied for ninth place.
Kang's 1-under-par 71 was the second-best scorecard in the second round among the entire field and was a four-stroke improvement from the first round. Also improving between rounds was Terese Romeo, who shaved two strokes off her morning scorecard by firing a 1-over-par 73 in the afternoon round. She finished the day at 4-over-par and tied for 16th.

The Bears finished the first day of action in sixth place at 25-over-par, one stroke ahead of Troy and two strokes ahead of Old Dominion. The Orange and Black trails SoCon foe ETSU by only two strokes while Kennesaw State is in fourth place at 21-over-par, four strokes ahead of Mercer. No. 9 Furman leads the team leaderboard at 8-over-par while No. 21 Texas A&M is in second at 11-over-par.

Of the Bears' team scorers, Hannah Mae Deems leads the way at 2-over-par and sitting tied for ninth. She enters the final round tied for Mercer's top individual golfer, Tiffany Kang, who is also the top individual player in the field. Terese Romeo is tied for 16th at 4-over-par while Lauren Lightfritz is at 7-over-par and tied for 26th meaning Mercer is one stroke away from three team scorers and an individual scorer in the top 25.
TUESDAY'S PAIRINGS
Mercer will tee off of Hole No. 1 with tee times starting at 8:20 a.m. and running every 10 minutes. The Bears will be paired with ETSU, Old Dominion and Troy in the final round.
