Mercer Sets Program Wins Record in ASUN split

The Bears notch their 11th win of the season in defeat of FGCU
DELAND, Fla. – Mercer set a single-season wins record as it defeated FGCU, 3-2, in the second of two ASUN Conference matches played Friday at the Cooper Beach Volleyball Courts.
The Bears (11-8, 4-1 ASUN) were defeated, 5-0, by No. 9 (AVCA) Stetson earlier in the day but rallied with the impressive win over FGCU in the afternoon. The victory also tied Mercer's program record for most conference wins in a season (4).
Mercer split the first four sets of the FGCU match as Madison Kerr/Demi-Shay Watchorn and Danielle Faust/Claire Waliczek defeated the Eagles in straight sets in the No. 5 and No. 3 seeds, respectively. The match came down to Tori Penrod and Emily Krogman's three-set win (21-15, 11-21, 15-11) at the No. 1 seed, which clinched the record.
Despite their losses in the Stetson match, Emma Peel/Sophie Peel and Gretja Otten/Jessica Johnson went three sets in at the No. 2 and No. 4 seeds, respectively. Friday's win was Mercer's first against FGCU since March 28, 2015. Stetson defeated Mercer in straight sets at all five seeds to remain undefeated in ASUN play.

PAIR OF THE MATCH(ES)
Tori Penrod/Emily Krogman and Danielle Faust/Claire Waliczek split the honors for Friday's pair of the match. Penrod and Krogman clinched the Bears' 11th win of the year in the match's No. 1 seed finale while Faust/Waliczek improved to 4-1 in ASUN play with their 12th victory as a pairing.
