Mercer Heads North for Charleston Invitational

CHARLESTON S.C. – The Mercer volleyball team will travel to Charleston, S.C. to compete in the Charleston Invitational on Sept. 15-16. Mercer will kick off the trip against Buffalo at 4:30 p.m. Friday, followed by two matches against host College of Charleston (1 p.m.) and Appalachian St. (4:30 p.m.) on Saturday.

NOTABLES
Buffalo (5-3) is coming off a one game win streak against Georgetown. Sophomore, Prolina Prokudina leads the team with 128 kills (.241) with Scout McLerran leading in assists (317). Megan Wernette was named to the All-Tournament team at the Georgetown Classic after hitting .692 and no errors against Coppin State.

SCOUTING COLLEGE OF CHARLESTON
The 7-3 hosts for the Charleston Invitational, are led by sophomore Lauren Freed and senior Krissy Mummey, who earned the Cougars back-to-back Offensive Player of the Week awards. After beating Kent State in the Golden Flashes Classic, the Cougars enter the matchup on a winning note.
SCOUTING APPALACHIAN STATE
After falling 2-3 to North Dakota State in the NDSU Invitational, the Mountaineers are traveling with a one game losing streak. Kara Spicer is the offensive key, leading with 153 kills (.365), 37.0 blocks and 17 service ace. Ashlyn Brown named Sun Belt Setter of the Week which is the fourth week in a row an Appalachian State volleyball player earns a Sun Belt award.
