Bears to compete in UAB-hosted races after FSU Invitational cancelled

By: Gerrit W. Van Genderen

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer men's and women's cross country teams will compete in the UAB-hosted Blazer Classic in Montevallo, Ala. on Friday.

Both the women's 6K race and men's 8K race will be held at the Alabama Traffic Safety Center. Mercer was originally scheduled to run at the FSU Invitational, which was cancelled due to the projected path of Hurricane Michael.

Mercer's men have competed in two 8K races this fall at Louisville and Vanderbilt; freshmen Scotty McKenzie and Vladi Zander-Velloso own the team's top-two 8K finishes of 25:53.50 and 25:56.20, respectively.

Friday will mark the Mercer women's first 6K race of the season. Freshmen Hannah Corson and Ashley McMahon have combined for the Bears' four-fastest 5K race times, including Corson's team-best 19:53.60 at the Upstate Invitational in Spartanburg, S.C.
