Romeo Earns Top-10 Finish at Alexa Stirling Intercollegiate

Mercer finishes eighth in three-day tournament
ATLANTA – Senior Terese Romeo (+7) tied for 10th-place individually and led the Mercer women's golf team to an eighth-place finish at the Alexa Stirling Intercollegiate at the Atlanta Athletic Club on Sunday.

The Bears (306-310-299) carded their lowest score of the weekend on Sunday, shooting 299, but were unable to make up any ground in the team standings. Romeo and Payton Schanen (+10) both earned top-20 individual finishes.

The Bears remained in eighth place all weekend and finished two strokes behind seventh-place East Carolina (+49). Mercer bested Coastal Carolina (+58), Georgia State (+77) and Dartmouth (+84).

Three Bears shot 74 or lower on Sunday, including Payton Schanen, who carded an even-par 72 and climbed 14 spots for a tie of 17th place. Schanen recorded three birdies on No. 3, 9 and 16. Romeo, who entered the final round tied for 15th place, jumped five spots with a two-over-par 74.

Mercer will conclude its 2018 fall season by hosting the annual Idle Hour Collegiate Championship on Nov. 5-6 at the Idle Hour Golf Club in Macon, Ga. The Bears have won the two previous Idle Hour Collegiate Championships in 2016 and 2017.
