Mercer Volleyball Sweeps Chattanooga, 3-0

Bears move to 6-3 at home
MACON, Ga. – Mercer (13-11, 6-7 SoCon) swept Chattanooga 3-0 (25-17, 25-11, 25-20) in Hawkins Arena Friday evening. The Bears earn their fifth sweep of the season, and improve to 6-3 at home. Â

HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1 (25-17) | Brittany Major and Roberta Todd notched the first two points of the match to spark the Bears to a quick 18-7 advantage. The Mocs generated five-straight points to pull within five (22-17), but it would be Mercer to take the final three points to win the opening set, 25-17.

Set 2 (25-11) | After a Todd kill and a Megan Smith service ace, the Bears ignited an early 17-7 lead. The Bears continued the match by generating a 8-4 run which included one kill apiece for six different Bears (Major, Paige Alsten, Maddie Nunley, Annie Karle, Alexia Morey and Danielle Faust), closing out the second set 25-11.

Set 3 (25-20) | Set three favored the Mocs, whom sparked three-straight points to begin the set. The Bears tied the set up twice before taking the lead at 9-8 after an Olivia Sass service ace. Chattanooga knotted the set up five different times (9-9, 11-11, 17-17, 18-18, 19-19) before the Bears notched the final four points to win the match 25-20.

- Mercer is 6-3 at home this season, falling to only UNCG (3-2), ETSU (3-1) and Furman (3-1).
- Mercer bested the Mocs in kills (46), hitting percentage (.296), assists (42) and digs (48). The Bears tied with Chattanooga in aces (5) and blocks (6).
- Brittany Major led the Black and Orange with career-high .550 hitting percentage, connecting on 12 kills, 20 attacks and only one error. The freshman also added three total blocks and two digs.
- Roberta Todd recorded a double-double, registering 10 kills and 11 digs. The sophomore also produced one block assist.
- Maddie Nunley led Mercer with 32 assists. She also notched three kills, six digs and one total block.
- Paige Alsten led the Bears with four total blocks. The senior also recorded a season-high .538 hitting percentage connecting on seven kills, 13 attacks and zero errors.
- Emilee Wissmach led the Bears with a game-high 12 digs.
- Olivia Sass led the Bears and tied her season-high with three service aces, totaling her to 19 for the season.
