Mercer Hosts Chattanooga, Samford this Weekend

The Bears close out their final home weekend of regular season play
MACON, Ga. – Mercer (12-11, 5-7 SoCon) will continue its five-match home stand by hosting Chattanooga and Samford at Hawkins Arena this weekend.

The Bears will face Chattanooga at 6 p.m. on Friday before taking on Samford at 7 p.m. on Saturday. A senior day ceremony will be held prior to Saturday's match as Mercer honors its four seniors, Paige Alsten, Maria Avramova, Danielle Faust and Olivia Sass.

The Bears are currently sixth in the Southern Conference Standings while Samford (13-13, 8-4) is second and Chattanooga (8-17, 4-8) is tied for ninth. Neither match will feature a live broadcast, but live stats will be available.

SERIES HISTORY
Mercer trails Chattanooga 10-15 in their overall series and most recently fell to the Mocs in straight sets in Chattanooga, Tenn. on Oct. 6. The Bears also fell to the Bulldogs earlier this season, on Oct. 5, and trail 7-29 in their all-time series.

SCOUTING CHATTANOOGA
Chattanooga leads the conference in service aces, with Ally Ford averaging a league-best 0.43 per set. The Mocs also rank higher than the Bears in digs per set (15.54), with Megan Kaufman backing the defense by notching 3.53 digs per set. Dani Szcezpanski leads Chattanooga in with the second highest hitting percentage in the conference (.337). The Mocs have defeated Furman (3-0), Wofford (3-2) and Samford (3-2), who the Bears have fallen to at least once.

Samford ranks higher than the Bears in five of seven statistical categories, including, opponent hitting percentage (.195), assists (12.15), kills (12.95), service aces (1.36) and digs (16.19). Taylor Anderton leads the SoCon, averaging 10.79 assists per set. Krista Boesing leads the Bulldog's offense by generating 3.64 kills per set. Samford fell to UNCG (3-2) and Wofford (3-1) whom the Bears have defeated at least once during the season.
