Bears Head to Sunshine State for Pair of Weekend Matches

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer Bears' women's tennis team returns to action, traveling to DeLand, Fla. for a weekend of competition beginning by taking on Iowa State on Saturday, March 3. Mercer will then take on the Stetson Hatters on Sunday, March 3. Both matches will be held at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center and are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.

Scouting the Cyclones
Iowa State enters the weekend holding a 7-3 overall record. The Cyclones have completed three sweeps on the season, blanking South Dakota, Bethune-Cookman and Creighton. The roster for Iowa State is fairly young, with no seniors on the team. The Cyclones are led by Armondo Espinosa who is in his 11^th season at Iowa State, 10^th as the head coach. Prior to the match Saturday, the Cyclones will take on North Florida on Friday afternoon.

Scouting the Hatters
Stetson will enter Sunday's matchup with a 6-2 record on the season, fresh off a 7-0 sweep over Nova Southeastern last week (2/25/18). The Hatters have taken advantage of home court this season, holding a 4-1 record at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center. Vicky Geurinckx is perfect on the season for the Hatters, with an undefeated 6-0 mark. Arijan Korac, who has seen some time at the No. 1 singles slot, is currently riding a four-match winning streak. The Hatters are led by Travis Sandlant, who is in his first season at Stetson.

Up Next
Following play on Sunday, the Bears will return to Macon, Ga. for a five-match home stand, beginning with a matchup against Ball State on Wednesday, March 7. The match will be held at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center with a start time of 11 a.m.
