Bears drop both matches against Stetson, Florida Gulf Coast

MACON, Ga. – Mercer (6-9) fell in its conference opening matches against Stetson (15-6) and Florida Gulf Coast (7-6) Friday. The Hatters held the Bears 0-5, while the Eagles took the 4-1 advantage.

Emilee Wissmach and Maria Chavez were the only Mercer pairing to earn a win, forcing the Eagles into three sets. The two played as the five seed, winning the last two sets 21-17, 15-12.

Mercer will host Florida Gulf Coast and Stetson to in its second conference matchup of the weekend. The Bears will face Stetson on Saturday at noon before facing Florida Gulf Coast at 2 p.m for senior day.
