Mercer Drops 4-2 Contest at Stetson Sunday

DELAND, Fla. – The Mercer Bears' women's tennis team fell 4-2 at the hands of Stetson at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center Sunday morning.

The Hatters grabbed an early 1-0 lead, winning the doubles competition to start the morning. On court No. 1, the Bears' Celine Schepers and Grace Korta fell, 6-2, to Daniel Ashirova and Vicky Geurinckx. Stetson clinched the doubles point with No. 2 Lucie Renault and Brooke Miller's 6-3 triumph over Christie Cesarini and Katie Sidor. Play was left unfinished on court No. 3.

The Bears No. 1 seeded Katie Sidor continued her hot streak, as her opponent, Ashirova, retired when Sidor was up 7-5, 1-0. On court No. 2, Schepers won in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5, over Arijana Korac. Court No. 3 saw Milner top Marie Mottet, 7-5, 6-4. No. 5 seeded Lucia Gutierrez fell, 6-3, 6-2, to Maxine Bateman. Stetson clinched the match with No. 6 seeded Danielle Peele's, 6-1, 6-4, win over Cesarini. Play was left unfinished on court No. 4.

The Bears will return home for a five match home stand, beginning by hosting Ball State on Wednesday, March 7 at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center. Play is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
