MACON, Ga. – Elvis Kisonas, who has been working as a graduate assistant for the Mercer men's basketball team, has been named Director of Basketball Operations for the Bears program. Head Coach Bob Hoffman made the announcement Monday.
Kisonas, a native of Kaunas, Lithuania, joined the Mercer program two years ago as a graduate manager. He has assisted the coaching staff in compiling scouting reports, managing the team equipment inventory and serving as director for team camp over the past two seasons. Kisonas recently completed his Masters in Higher Educational Leadership at Mercer with a 4.0 grade point average. Hoffman said Kisonas will continue to play a valuable role for the Bears in his new position.
"Elvis has been an outstanding worker for us the past several years," Hoffman said. "He's helped us be successful in a lot of different areas and I know that will continue in his new role. We're thrilled to have him as part of our program and he's been a tremendous extension for our entire coaching staff in a wide variety of capacities."
Kisonas moved to North Carolina with his family at the age of eight and grew up in the Charlotte area. He was a standout basketball player at Ardrey Kell High School, where he was a four-year letter winner. He attended Gardner Webb University and worked as the men's basketball team's manager under Coach Tim Craft. A double major in Psychology and Sport Management, Kisonas graduated with a 3.94 GPA.
"I'm grateful to Coach Hoffman and his staff for the opportunity to move up to the role of Director of Basketball Operations," Kisonas said. "I've been able to gain a lot of valuable experience during my time here and I'm excited about continuing my association with the Mercer Bear athletic family. I look forward to working as hard as I can to make a positive contribution to the overall success of our program."
