Bears Kick Off 2018 Campaign Hosting USC-Aiken Friday

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer women's soccer squad will begin its 2018 regular season campaign by hosting USC-Aiken on Friday, Aug. 17. The match will be held the soon-to-be-completed Betts Stadium with a start time of 7:30 p.m. ET.

SERIES HISTORY | LAST MEETING
The Bears and Pacers have only met once, with Mercer prevailing, 5-0 (2014).

NOTABLES

With construction underway for the full completion of Betts Stadium, Mercer will unveil its new scoreboard Friday night.
Mercer is 4-3-1 in season openers under Head Coach Tony Economopoulos. The Bears won at Troy, 1-0, in last season's opener.
The Bears finished the 2017 season with an overall record of 10-10-1 (3-5-1), falling in the quarterfinals of the Southern Conference Tournament at Samford.
Coach Economopoulos enters his seventh year at the helm of the Mercer squad. In Economopoulos' tenure, Mercer has not had a losing season.
Mercer holds a 35-14-5 home record over the past five seasons.
The Bears return eight starters from the 2017 season, including two sophomore forwards in Ally Fordham and Sarah Adcock. Fordham tallied 14 points on six goals and two assists last season while Adcock provided three goals and three assists.
Mercer returns all three defenders from their back line in Megan Delmonico, Jorden Christensen and Haley McDuffee.
The Bears welcome eight new faces to the squad, including six freshmen and two transfers.
Mercer was picked fifth in the SoCon Preseason Poll.

SCOUTING THE PACERS
USC-Aiken finished the 2017 season with a 4-13 overall record and 2-8 conference mark. The Pacers have won their last two season openers. USC-Aiken's 27 woman roster features six seniors and two juniors. Much like the Bears, the Pacers welcome several newcomers, with seven freshmen on the squad. The Pacers are led by head coach Hilary George, who is entering her fifth season at the helm.

UP NEXT
Mercer will have a quick turnaround, hosting Mississippi Valley State this Sunday, Aug. 19 at Betts Stadium. The match is set for a 2 p.m. start.
