Mercer sweeps the Red Flash in final match of Comfort Inn-Vitational
MOREHEAD, Ky. – Mercer left the Morehead State-hosted Comfort Inn-Vitational on a high note after sweeping Saint Francis, 3-0 (25-21, 25-23, 25-21) on Saturday at Wetherby Gym.

Paige Alsten and Emilee Wissmach posed as a double-threat in the win with team-highs of 16 kills (Alsten) and 21 digs (Wissmach).

HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1 (25-21) |Â After Saint Francis took an initial lead with the first two points, Mercer rallied with a four-point run, highlighted by a kill from Alexia Morey. The two teams later locked in at 19-19, but a pivotal kill by Alsten powered Mercer to close out the opening set by four points.

Set 2 (25-23) |Â Morey rang in another kill to start off the second set. The Bears owned a comfortable 19-12 advantage before the Red Flash fought back, using an 8-2 run to pull within one point (21-20). Saint Francis would later take a 23-22 lead before Alsten responded with a set-tying kill that sparked a closing three-point run for Mercer.

Set 3 (25-21) |Â Mercer tallied a match-best .273 hitting percentage in the final set and used it toward the 25-21 win. Brittany Major recorded Mercer's first point of the set with a kill off of the assist from Maddie Nunley. It was the first of five kills for Major in the third frame. After a block by Major and Morey gave Mercer a 22-15 lead, Saint Francis rallied back with six of the final nine points before Alsten came up with a solo block to seal the Bears' win.

- Maddie Nunley registered 38 assists, nine digs and two blocks.

- Mercer led the match in team hitting percentage (.243), kills (44), assists (41) and digs (57). The Bears tied the Red Flash in total blocks with seven.
