Bears suffer second straight SoCon loss
MACON, Ga. – Mercer (8-6, 1-2 SoCon) was defeated by Furman, 3-0 (22-25, 23-25, 15-25), in its first Southern Conference road match of the season on Friday at Alley Gym.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1 (22-25) | Mercer found itself trailing 5-1 to begin set one. After a 6-2 run, led by a kill apiece for Annie Karle and Maddie Nunley, Mercer found itself with a one-point, 13-12 advantage. The Bears were unable to hold off a late 7-1 run by the Paladins, however, who took the opening set 25-22.
Â
Set 2 (23-25) | Kills by Karle, Paige Alsten and Brittany Major gave Mercer an 11-10 lead near the midway point of the second set. Another key run by the Paladins regained them the lead at 20-13. Momentum shifted back to Mercer, which tied the set at 23-23 and forced a Furman timeout thanks to a 9-2 run that included points from Danielle Faust, Alexia Morey and Maddie Nunley.
