Mercer returns to Macon with a pair of conference road losses
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer (8-7, 1-3 SoCon) was defeated in straight sets by Wofford, 3-0 (16-25, 26-28, 23-25), on Saturday afternoon at the Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium. It was Mercer's second loss of the two-match road trip to South Carolina.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1 (16-25) | Mercer found itself trailing, 4-1, to open the first set of the match. The Terriers extended their lead to nine points before Paige Alsten recorded back-to-back kills, followed by a service ace by Danielle Faust, making it a 19-12 deficit for Mercer. The Terriers withstood Mercer down the stretch to win 25-16.

Set 2 (26-28) | Mercer and Wofford exchanged eight ties in a back-and-forth second set before Wofford notched a final three-point run to win 28-26. Wofford led 9-4 early in the frame, but Mercer was able to use a 7-1 run to take an 11-10 lead earlier in the set.

Set 3 (23-25) | After back-and-forth points from both teams, including four ties, the Terriers were able to take the early lead 6-5. Mercer ignited a 7-2 run to pull within one point (14-15) midway through the set. A 4-1 run by Mercer tied the set at 20-20 before Wofford recorded three straight points to quickly regain its lead. Despite two Mercer points, Wofford was able to fend off the Bears for the sweep.

- Mercer recorded five aces to Wofford's four, including a pair by Megan Smith.
- Mercer also out-blocked the Terriers, 6-5. Alexia Morey recorded four of the six.
- Alsten added a team-high 10 kills. She has recorded double-digit kills in nine consecutive matches.
- Maddie Nunley totaled 29 assists and a team-high 13 digs, for her fourth of the season. The sophomore also added a service ace and one block.Â
