Mercer Welcomes Jacksonville for Home Opener

Bears open five-game home slate at 6 p.m. Saturday against Jacksonville
MACON, Ga. – Mercer will kick off its 2018 home football slate by hosting Jacksonville at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8 at Five Star Stadium.

The Bears (0-1), who are 22-9 at Five Star Stadium since 2013, opened last season against Jacksonville (1-0), defeating the Dolphins, 48-7, at home. Saturday's contest will be broadcasted via ESPN3 while fans can tune into the "Voice of the Bears" Rick Cameron and the Mercer Sports Network on 100.9 The Creek FM or the SportsMic app.

- Mercer head coach Bobby Lamb is seeking his 100th career win (99-66) on Saturday.
- Saturday's game marks the third meeting between Mercer and Jacksonville. Mercer is 2-0 against the Dolphins, defeating them in 2013 (45-42) and 2017 (48-7).
- Mercer is 22-9 at Five Star Stadium and 4-1 in home openers since 2013.
- Mercer will honor its record-setting 2013 football team on Saturday. Last Friday, Aug. 31, marked the five-year anniversary of Mercer's first football game following a 72-year hiatus. The 2013 team set a NCAA Division I record for most wins by a first-year program (10).
- Tee Mitchell needs 14 rushing yards to become the third player in program history with 2,000 career rushing yards (John Russ, Alex Lakes).
- Quarterbacks Kaelan Riley and Robert Riddle split time under center at Memphis, continuing a heated competition that has carried over into the season from preseason camp. Riley, the 2017 SoCon Freshman of the Year, was 4-of-8 for 10 yards and one interception while Riddle, who made his collegiate debut, was 10-of-19 for 104 yards with two touchdowns, one interception and 24 yards rushing.
- Mercer lost its 2017 home finale to Samford and will look to avoid consecutive losses at home for the second time in program history. The last time Mercer lost twice in a row at home was Oct. 18 and Nov. 1 of the 2014 season.
