Mercer Picks Up Two Singles Victory in Match at Georgia Southern

STATESBORO, Ga. – The Mercer women's tennis team dropped a hard-fought 5-2 decision at Georgia Southern Thursday afternoon.
The Eagles jumped to an early lead, sweeping the doubles competition. On court No. 1, Arianne De Winter and Emilia Bujan topped Katie Sidor and Celine Schepers, 6-4. Court No. 2 saw Georgia Southern's Lindsay Truscott and Luisa Hrda defeat Christie Cesarini and Anna Sovic, 6-2. Mercer's No. 3 pairing of Alara Hollyfield and Maeva Roquebert fell, 6-4, to Paula Boixader and Elizabeth Goines.
Mercer's day was highlighted by two wins in singles play. No. 1 seeded Sidor bested De Winter in straight sets, 6-2 , 6-2. On court No. 4, Roquebert remained hot on the singles side, with another straight set victory, coming over Truscott, 6-1 ,6-2. The Eagles claimed the remaining singles competitions. No. 2 Boixader defeated Schepers, 6-4, 6-3. No. 3 Bujan edged Hollyfield in a match that went the distance, 6-3, 0-6, 6-3. On court No. 5, Goines beat Sovic, 6-0, 6-3. No. 6 Hrda downed Cesarini, 6-1, 6-0.

The Bears will return for their home opener, hosting Alabama State this Sunday, Feb. 3 at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center.
